A 2001 clip of a teenage Beyoncé speaking with Michael Jackson on the phone has resurfaced. However, a crucial detail from the footage has garnered attention, prompting fans to question the incident. In the clip, the former Destiny's Child lead singer is sitting on producer F. Marc Schaffel's lap while talking to Jackson on the phone, sparking a debate about the professional boundaries of the interaction.
The resurfaced clip is reportedly part of one of Schaffel's scrapped reality projects, centred on Michael Jackson and his group. The clip dates back to 2001, when Beyoncé was in the studio with Schaffel to record vocals for Jackson's post-September 11 charity single 'What More Can I Give.'

Resurfaced clip of teenage Beyoncé with Schaffel while speaking to Michael Jackson goes viral
While the phone conversation between Beyoncé and Michael Jackson is heartwarming, fans are questioning the professional atmosphere in Schaffel's studio.
In the clip, the Crazy in Love singer is visibly overwhelmed after Schaffel tells her that the late singer is a fan of her work. Schaffel, who was a producer on Jackson's charity single, proceeds to invite Beyoncé to talk to Jackson on the phone, but not before he invites her to sit on his lap. This is what Schaffel can be heard saying to the singer in the clip:

"Alright, here we go. You want to sit on? You want to make this easier? You can sit on my lap.'' [Schaffel then tells Jackson on the phone] "I have Beyoncé sitting on my lap, and I will put you on speakerphone."
In the resurfaced clip, 19-year-old Beyoncé speaks to Michael Jackson over the phone, expressing her excitement and honour at being part of his charity single. The singer (who was part of Destiny’s Child at the time) also shares her admiration for the pop icon and his work. Following the call, Beyoncé can be seen dancing excitedly as she tells those around her, “I am happy I talked to him.”
Michael Jackson later cut ties with F. Marc Schaffel
The resurfaced clip of Beyoncé sitting in Schaffel's lap has left fans uncomfortable, considering the producer's tumultuous history with the late singer.
While Schaffel was Jackson's former business partner and television producer on projects likeMichael Jackson's Private Home Movies & the post-9/11 charity single, their relationship took a turn when the late singer severed ties with Schaffel after discovering his background in the adult film industry. Viewing Schaffel's background as a threat to his public image, Jackson's agents advised him to split with the producer, which led to the infamous 2006 legal battle between the parties.
Schaffel sued the late singer for $3 million, alleging unpaid compensation, loans, and expenses and Jackson's legal team termed the producer an opportunistic manipulator. Eventually, a California jury awarded Schaffel $900,000 and ordered him to pay Jackson $200,000 on a counterclaim.
Beyoncé's resurfaced clip has sparked renewed discussion about professional boundaries and the way young female artists interact with powerful male figures in the entertainment industry. In addition to the singer, Jackson's charity single featured a supergroup of artists including Mariah Carey, Reba McEntire, NSYNC, Celine Dion, Luther Vandross, Usher and many more.
