Roughly one day before shots were fired inside the Washington Hilton ballroom during the 2026 White Hose Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night, *The View* cohost Sara Haines jokingly issued an on-air warning to her TV audience about celebrity mentalist Oz Pearlman, who would later appear on stage with Donald Trump when the shooting occurred outside the main event space.

Haines made her remarks on Friday's show, months after Pearlman incensed her by revealing her bank PIN live on *The View*.

"It isn't Donald Trump that's keeping me from this dinner, it's Oz Pearlman," Haines joked, referencing the November 2025 *View* moment in which Pearlman shocked her by revealing her ATM number on the air. This resulted in Haines asking, "What the f---?" during the broadcast, and later having a "nervous breakdown" on set, per her cohost, Joy Behar.

Former Trump White House staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin added, "Thank you, okay, I stand with Sara on this," on Friday's broadcast, though Haines clarified that her remark about avoiding the event because of Pearlman instead of Trump was "just a joke."

"Is he going to shout out the nuclear codes? How can we trust this man at this dinner?" Griffin continued, to which Haines replied, "I'm going to warn everyone at that dinner: Tell him nothing!"

Griffin finished her joke by advising Correspondents' Dinner attendees, "Don't leave your phone near him, either!"

Pearlman, a celebrity mentalist who has built a career on mind-reading gags, was captured on camera performing for the president and Melania Trump when shots rang out at the annual media event in Washington, D.C.

"Thank you all for checking on me. I am okay and thank God everyone is alright!" Pearlman wrote on Instagram after the shooting. "Was in the middle of performing for the President and First Lady when I looked up to see a commotion. Thought it was a bomb about to go off or shots fired. We hit the deck fast and Secret Service acted decisively and professionally to protect us all."

The mentalist said he remained on the ground for a few moments "a couple feet away" from Trump, and that they "locked eyes with one another" in what he called "likely the scariest moment of my life."

Authorities eventually identified the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old man from California, per the Associated Press. The outlet reported that Allen attempted to charge into the venue, leading to a scuffle in which shots were fired as he was tackled to the ground.

Other attendees at the event included Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s wife, actress Cheryl Hines; CNN's Kaitlan Collins and Wolf Blitzer; and Vice President JD Vance, who was rushed off stage along with Trump during the incident.

"We were there and we heard shots and, um, everybody got under the tables," Hines said overnight in an Instagram video summarizing the event, in which she refers to her RFK Jr. as Bobby. "Nobody knew what was going on, and then, um, you know, Bobby's security detail surrounded us and took us.... I mean, really, like, had to lift me over chairs, because I'm in heels and a gown, and, um, and they took us through all of the back ways, and we, uh, got in the car, and left."
