Nothing is going to stop the rich and famous from making their reservations at the White Lotus—not even back-to-back murders at the resort’s different global locales.

It’s official, a whole new set of guests will be checking in for yet another season of The White Lotus.Weeks before season three aired, HBO confirmed that Mike White’s dark comedy would be returning for a fourth season. While all the plot and cast details haven’t been disclosed, we can safely assume that season four will be brimming with even more mystery, desire, and—well—death. The series is heading to France for season four.

According to Deadline, Mike White and HBO have settled on France as the location for The White Lotus season four. Filming will take place in Cannes, St. Tropez, and Monaco. The guests will be checking into the Airelles Château de la Messardière, which will be the White Lotus du Cap, and the Hôtel Martinez, which will be the White Lotus Cannes.On April 15th, HBO revealed that the fourth season will follow a new slate of White Lotus guests during the week of the Cannes Film Festival. The official logline reads, “The fourth season will follow a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival.”

We’ve learned about Season 4’s star-studded cast bit by bit since Alexander Ludwig and AJ Michalka were first announced in December 2025. Not long after, showrunners revealed Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Marissa Long, and Chris Messina had joined the ranks. More names flooded in: Heather Graham, Frida Gustavsson, Rosie Perez, Tobias Santelmann, Ben Schnetzer, and Laura Smet. (It’s almost impossible to believe this line-up.)

But that’s not even close to the end. In March 2026, HBO revealed Max Greenfield and Kumail Nanjiani would be checking into the hotel. The cast wouldn’t be rounded out with its fair share of legends either. The French actor Vincent Cassel and the iconic Sandra Bernhard were confirmed to be joining the cast on April 15th.

All the good news (momentarily) ended when fans learned that Helena Bonham Carter had exited the show (after joining in January). An HBO spokesperson told Deadline that Carter’s character “did not align once on set.” That vacancy, however, was filled almost immediately, with Laura Dern stepping up to the plate (relieving the heartbreak).

Why Is Laura Dern a Big Deal?

If the inimitable Laura Dern joins any cast, it’s a big deal. But Dern joining The White Lotus means a long-awaited reunion between the actress and her friend Mike White.

Dern and White first collaborated on the HBO comedy-drama Enlightened, which ran from 2011 to 2013. Dern starred as Amy Jellicoe, a woman living in Riverside, California after recovering from a mental breakdown.

Dern actually already appeared on White Lotus in season two. She played the voice of Abby, the wife of Michael Imperioli’s Dominic Di Grasso. However, Dern will reportedly step into a new character, which is currently being written by White. We can’t wait to see what this dream duo has in store for us.

Season four will sound very different.

Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, the Emmy-winning composer responsible for The White Lotus’s beloved theme song and anxiety-inducing soundtrack, confirmed that he will not return to the project next season.

In an interview with the New York Times, Tapia de Veer said that his decision to exit The White Lotus stemmed from creative differences between himself and White. Critically, the two struggled over season three’s theme song, which did not feature the fan-favorite “ooh-loo-loo-loo” melody that had previously appeared in seasons one and two.

“People are furious about the change of the theme, and I thought that was interesting,” Tapia de Veer said, revealing that an uncut version of season three’s theme included the “ooh-loo-loo-loo”’s. “I texted the producer and I told him that it would be great to, at some point, give them the longer version with the ooh-loo-loo-loos, because people will explode if they realize that it was going there anyway. He thought it was a good idea. But then Mike cut that—he wasn’t happy about that. I mean, at that point, we already had our last fight forever, I think. So he was just saying no to anything.”

Season four likely won’t drop until 2027.

With production slated to begin in 2026, it’s possible that we won’t get to watch season four until late 2026 or even 2027.
