Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had so far been the only ones making headlines for their alleged efforts to capitalize on Princess Diana’s upcoming death anniversary. However, the late princess’ brother, Charles Spencer, has entered the conversation alongside the Sussexes, with his upcoming book, titled Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.

Since the memoir is expected to be released on Sep. 22, 2026, it could derail the Duke and Duchess’ documentary plan, set to be released on the princess’ 30th death anniversary.

Charles Spencer Plans to ‘Tell the Truth About Diana’ in New Memoir

According to The Guardian, Charles Spencer, who has largely stayed out of the spotlight for the majority of his life, has finally decided to share his perspective about his beloved sister, Princess Diana.

Spencer is set to release Swan Song: Diana, My Sister through Penguin. Spencer aims to tell the story of the late princess’ life and the week of her death. The book will hit shelves in the U.K. on Sept. 22.

Explaining his decision to write the book, Spencer said, “With the 30th anniversary of Diana’s tragic death on the skyline, I’ve been inundated yet again with requests for interviews about my sister.”

“This has convinced me to write down my own thoughts and memories, once and for all, rather than having the discomfort of again reading the opinions of others, many of which are based on untruths that have become accepted over time,” he added.

Recalling his eulogy for his sister, following her death in Aug. 1997, Spencer told the outlet, “I hope this book will be of interest to the many who still cherish the memory of Diana when she was alive.”

He added, “I would be delighted if those too young to remember her in her heyday feel, after reading this, that they ‘get’ who she really was: a one-off, dynamic character, full of love, charisma and self-doubt.”

Reflecting on his late sister who remains widely remembered decades after her death, Spencer said, she “gave life a hell of a go, and left the world a far better place, despite exiting the stage while still so young.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Documentary Plans Under Attack

Meanwhile, ahead of the book’s release, Daniel Bunyard, publishing director at Penguin, said that Charles Spencer’s memoir contains “many revelations that will draw considerable attention.”

The development could be a setback for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are reportedly planning their own documentary about Princess Diana. Their project is reportedly set to be released on the 30th anniversary of the princess’s death.

However, Spencer’s book is set to be released this year, on the 29th death anniversary of the princess, and is expected to cover the personal chapters of her life, including her childhood and her difficult marriage to then-Prince Charles.

It will also cover the final week before her death. TalkTV host Kevin O’Sullivan believes “This book, I think, might put a bit of a hole in Harry and Meghan’s plans.” He further suggested that the book may have ‘stolen a march’ on the couple.
