While Kate Middleton excelled at field hockey and Prince William was a multi-sport athlete at Eton College, their daughter seems to be following in their athletic footsteps.
According to the Daily Mail, Princess Charlotte has joined a travel netball team after developing a fondness for gymnastics, dance, rugby and running.
Netball is a sport similar to basketball, traditionally created for women, which is popular in the U.K. and the Commonwealth countries.
Sources Reveal Princess Charlotte āCompetes at a High Levelā in Netball
While Kate Middleton and Prince Williamās eldest son, Prince George, is set to start his education at Eton College, their 11-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte, has developed a newfound interest in netball.
A royal source told the outlet that the princess ācompetes at a high levelā in the sport āall over the country.ā According to reports, netball is very similar to basketball but itās played seven-on-seven.
During the match, each member of the team is assigned to a specific spot on the court where theyāre allowed to hold the ball for just three seconds at a time without moving. Further, the source revealed:
āAll of the parents of the girls on the opposing teams are wondering whether or not theyāre going to run into William and Kate. Itās all very hands-on, and it would be funny to see them in such a down-to-earth environment.ā
The royal source stated that while people are excited about Princess Charlotteās interest in the sport, theyāre more invested in watching the Prince and Princess of Wales do āthe early starts and long drives that everyone else has to do.ā

Princess Charlotteās Athletic Passion Could Affect Her Parentsā Royal Duties
If Princess Charlotteās love for netball turns into a genuine athletic passion, Prince William and Kate Middleton might have to focus on a different weekend commitment, rather than their usual royal duties.
The couple might even have to spend more time at netball courts rather than royal engagements, because they might have to travel to matches happening at a distant location and watch their daughter play from the sidelines.
However, it might not be difficult for the Prince and Princess of Wales, given their respective athletic backgrounds. Middleton developed a reputation for being sporty during her time at Marlborough College.
During her school years, Princess Catherine used to be the captain of her hockey team, and later on, she even took part in several sports during royal engagements. The 44-year-old has played tennis, squash, cricket and rugby.
As for Prince William, the future monarch used to be a multi-sport athlete at Eton College, where he competed in swimming, water polo and soccer.
