Nina Dobrev has revealed a new blonde hair look on Instagram while shooting the film adaptation of It Happened One Summer

The film is based on Tessa Bailey’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same name and also stars Tyler Hoechlin, Gavin Leatherwood and Virginia Gardner

Dobrev plays Piper Bellinger, a Hollywood “It Girl” adjusting to life in a small fishing town after being cut off financially by her family

The actress, 37, debuted her newly blonde locks on Instagram on Tuesday, Aug. 11, as she shared a glimpse into filming for the romantic comedy It Happened One Summer, a film adaptation of Tessa Bailey’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same name.

“Meet Piper 💁🏼‍♀️ Turns out blondes do have more fun… @ithappenedonesummer,” Dobrev captioned a carousel of photos from the set of the movie, in which she plays “It Girl” Piper Bellinger.

In the first photo, the Vampire Diaries alum could be seen pouting and flashing a peace sign as she sat in what appeared to be a hair and makeup chair with her new tresses on full display.

A shot of her co-stars Gavin Leatherwood and Virginia Gardner on a monitor on the set followed, as well as a snap of Dobrev’s on-screen love interest, Tyler Hoechlin, who plays fisherman Brendan Taggart.

Other pictures showed lake views, a police car, Dobrev holding a clapperboard and shooting in a bathroom while wearing a hot pink bra and lace pajama shorts, once again with her new ‘do.

It was unclear whether Dobrev’s hair was dyed or if she was wearing a wig, though in a post on her Instagram Stories, she shared her carousel and teased, “Never thought I would be a Blonde. Never say never… 💁‍♀️.”

The accompanying photo was a snap from Dobrev’s carousel of herself wearing a blue patterned bandana and flashing a peace sign at the camera from a makeup chair on set.

“It really did happen one summer ☀️👙,” Sex Lives of College Girls star Leatherwood, 32, wrote in the comments section of Dobrev’s grid post.

Leatherwood was confirmed to have joined the cast earlier this month. The actor is playing Fox Thornton, Brendan’s best friend and fellow fisherman.

The project’s director, Peter Hutchings, director of The Hating Game, told The Hollywood Reporter that Leatherwood was “the missing piece” to the cast.

“He walked in and the whole cast lifted,” Hutchings said. “Nina and Virginia are brilliant together as the Bellinger sisters, and with Tyler and Gavin alongside them, we’ve got something really special.”

It Happened One Summer follows L.A. “It Girl” Piper after she’s cut off from her wealthy family and is exiled to a small Pacific Northwest beach and fishing town. There, she butts heads with a surly and sexy local, Brendan Taggart, who thinks she doesn’t belong, per a synopsis.

The novel was a huge BookTok hit and has sold over two million copies in the U.S. It marks the first installment of author Bailey’s rom-com series The Bellinger Sisters, which also includes Hook, Line and Sinker. A third book is due to be released in 2027.

The film adaptation is currently filming in New York.
