Nicole Kidman recently got candid about a special memory involving her late mother, Janelle Kidman. Before her mother passed away at age 84 in September 2024, she left behind a meaningful “parting gift” for her granddaughter, Sunday Rose.
As reported by OK! Magazine, Nicole shared how her mother gave her crucial guidance regarding Sunday’s modeling dream.
For the unversed, Nicole has two daughters with ex-husband Keith Urban- Sunday Rose Kidman-Urban and Faith Margaret Kidman-Urban. She also has two adult children, Isabella Jane Cruise and Connor Cruise, with ex-husband Tom Cruise.
Nicole Kidman’s Mother’s Advice for Her Daughter Sunday
Sunday had wanted to try modeling for a while. However, the Lion actress was hesitating to let her teenage daughter step into the high-pressure fashion world at such a young age. However, everything changed after her conversation with her mom Janelle right before her death.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Nicole recalled asking her mother for advice. “I said, ‘Oh, should I let her? She wants to model.’” Her mother urged her to let Sunday pursue her interest, “And my mom said, ‘Well, you did it. … You have to let her because I let you.’”
The Big Little Lies actress explained that her mom had supported her when she started acting at age 14. She described her mother’s encouragement as a special “parting gift to Sunny.”
Nicole Said Conversation with Her Dying Mother Helped Put Things Into Perspective
The Babygirl star also revealed that her talk with her mother helped her realize the importance of supporting her daughter’s independence and desires.
“She kind of encouraged me to let her be able to follow her ‘bliss’ and follow her passion and what she wanted. So, I’m so grateful that my mama passed [that on].”
Following advice from her mother, Nicole, 16-year-old Sunday made her runway debut at Paris Fashion Week in October 2024. Walking for Miu Miu, Sunday wore a white sleeveless dress with ribbon details and eyelet trim, paired with black knee-high socks and open-toed pumps.

Sunday returned to Paris Fashion Week for Dior on July 6, just one day before her 18th birthday on July 7.
After Nicole and Keith Urban’s split, there were rumors of growing distance between Keith and his daughters.
Speculation arose when Keith altered song lyrics on stage for guitarist Maggie Baugh, and it sparked romance rumors. Fans noticed him changing romantic lines that were originally written for Nicole, and it fueled rumors of infidelity, according to The Nightly.
The family dynamic also became tense when Sunday unfollowed her father on Instagram. Both Sunday and Faith are fiercely protective of their mother during the ongoing divorce drama.
Many reports have claimed that the girls carry resentment toward their father because Nicole never wanted the marriage to end.
In a recent interview, Sunday praised Nicole as her biggest inspiration while completely omitting her dad.
