New reports are circulating that Meghan Markle’s possible appearance in The Gentlemen has taken an unexpected turn. Claims suggest that discussions about her potential role may have been abandoned following a strong reaction in the UK.
These reports came after reports emerged that Markle’s representatives had been in talks about a possible appearance in the Netflix crime comedy's third chapter. However, the situation now seems far from settled as neither Markle nor Netflix has said anything about her potential role or withdrawal claims.
Additionally, Markle wasn't confirmed as a cast member for The Gentlemen, so fans should take this as a pinch of salt. There was also no confirmed third-season order from Netflix at the time.
The latest claim, attributed to journalist Tina Brown, links the alleged change in plans to backlash in Britain. Yet, a proper reason for the reported withdrawal remains unclear.
Keep reading to find out what the journalist has claimed.
Meghan Markle was reportedly in talks forThe Gentlemen role
Earlier reports suggested that Meghan Markle’s representatives had been in discussions about a possible role for her in The Gentlemen. However, there was no casting confirmation from the representative or the makers.
There was also some variation in how far those conversations had gone. While some reports claimed that Meghan's casting was just exploratory, others suggested the possibility had received more serious consideration behind the scenes.
However, no contract was publicly shared that could have explained Meghan's reported role and details about the character. Netflix had also not announced that a third season of the series had been ordered.

The Gentlemen comes straight from Guy Ritchie and serves as a crime comedy with the event taking place in the criminal world surrounding an inherited estate. Since the show is quite popular, reports about Meghan Markle's reported involvement caught much attention.
Meghan Markle's reported withdrawal from The Gentlemen puts focus on UK backlash
As mentioned earlier, there are new reports suggesting that the Duchess of Sussex is no longer playing a role in The Gentlemen. Journalist Tina Brown reported that the proposed casting had been withdrawn.
According to Brown's Fresh Hell substack column:
"I learned this morning that the casting of Meghan Markle in season 3 of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen has been withdrawn."
The post continued:
"The backlash in the UK was so intense, it became untenable to go forward. This does not bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the UK. More to come."
The claim came amid criticism online, with reports pointing to negative reactions. Meghan’s highly divisive public image in the UK has made any potential entertainment project involving her likely to attract attention well beyond the usual casting discussion.
As of now, there is no confirmation from Markle or her representatives. However, Tina Brown toldThe Hollywood Reporter that "she stands by her reporting" about this widhrawal update .
