Meghan Markle and Netflix’s breakup has left royal expert Emily Andrews “flabbergasted” due to the claims the entertainment giant let her go to “stand on her own” after £16.3 million ($20.7 million) of unsold product. Due to this, the expert thinks the Sussexes are nowhere close to where they were expected to be after their royal exit in 2020.

After Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped down from their royal duties in 2020 to start afresh in the U.S., they hoped to make a big impact with their plans. Markle started her brand, As Ever, along with a few other ventures to make a niche in the industry with the support of Netflix.

However, after a couple of years, the entertainment giant and the Duchess of Sussex dissolved their partnership with her venture. “As ever is grateful for Netflix’s partnership through launch and our first year. We have experienced meaningful and rapid growth, and As ever is now ready to stand on its own,” the brand’s spokesperson stated, as per The Sun. Even Netflix spokesperson said that as “intended,” Markle “will continue growing the brand and take it into its next chapter independently.”

However, this news didn’t sit well with royal expert Emily Andrews. In woman&home, Andrews mentioned, she was “flabbergasted” when she received “a Whats-App from Team Sussex telling me that As Ever and Netflix were breaking up” because Markle “was being ‘held back’ by ‘cautious’ Netflix (who had invested a whole load of money in the brand).”

Looking at the turn of events, “coupled with the fact that a website glitch in January revealed unsold stock totalling £16.3million including 220,000 jars of jam,” made the correspondent think “As Ever could be struggling.”

Although she is aware that “launching a business takes a huge amount of time and effort, with many bumps in the road along the way.” But she thinks “the Sussexes are a long way from where they wanted to be when they left as working royals six years ago.”
