June "Mama June" Shannon gives a health update after losing one of her daughters in December 2023

Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell died at the age of 29, just shy of a year after being diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma

ā€œSome days are a struggle for me, but it’s nothing like the ā€˜C’ word,ā€ the reality star said

June "Mama June" Shannon is opening up about a recent health scare she faced, roughly two years after losing her daughter Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell.

While appearing on the Tuesday, March 3 episode of Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast with her daughters Jessica "Chubbs" Shannon, Lauryn "Pumpkin" Efird and Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson, the 46-year-old disclosed a medical issue that required surgery.

ā€œI had a total hysterectomy unexpectedly last year — last April. It was not expected,ā€ June said. ā€œIt was a scare for me because I did have some fibroid cysts that went to separated cysts, and we had a little scare.ā€

A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of a woman’s uterus.

ā€œMe, in my mind, going what Anna went through, I was worried it was going to be ovarian cancer,ā€ the reality star continued, referencing her late daughter’s death.

Cardwell died on Dec. 9, 2023, at the age of 29. The mother of two was previously diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma in January 2023.

June said she’d shared with her surviving children that she ā€œwas [in her] head for a long timeā€ about her medical issues. In June 2018, the From Not to Hot star told PEOPLE that after going completely blind in her right eye due to untreated cataracts from childhood, she’d undergone four surgeries to repair what little vision she has in her left.

ā€œIt’s been physically and emotionally draining,ā€ she added at the time. ā€œLosing my independence and having to rely on other people for everything has been crazy.ā€

In Tuesday’s interview, June said, ā€œSome days are a struggle for me, but it’s nothing like the ā€˜C’ word but like I tell people, we know it’s not gonna ever kill me, but it could immobilize me.ā€

During the conversation, she was also asked about her grieving process and her ā€œbeautiful tributeā€ to Cardwell in December for the second anniversary of her death.

Her daughters chimed in, with Pumpkin admitting that ā€œsome days are better than others.ā€

ā€œI still catch myself sometimes late at night, like if I’m scrolling TikTok, going to Anna’s page and watching her old videos with the kids,ā€ the 26-year-old said.

June and her daughters also shared how ā€œPretty Little Poisonā€ by Warren Zeiders was played at Cardwell’s funeral, and that they somehow find themselves hearing it all the time.

Season 8 of Mama June: From Not to Hot debuts March 13 on We TV.
