Landman has a new main character — and the fate of M-Tex may be resting squarely on his shoulders.
In season 2, episode 7, M-Tex's geologist, Charlie Newsom (Guy Burnet), gives in-house attorney Rebecca Wallace (Kayla Wallace) a crash course in offshore drilling, stressing that it’s a business with no guarantees. He delivers his initial assessment of the company’s Louisiana drilling plans — and Rebecca is less than thrilled to learn he’s rolling the dice on slim odds with $400 million on the line.
Charlie could be M-Tex’s saving grace — or the reason Rebecca loses her job. Their not-so-secret romance is a clear workplace violation, and her colleague Nate (Colm Feore) is eager for M-Tex president Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) to make it grounds for her dismissal.
Luckily for Rebecca, Tommy has bigger fires to put out, from repairing his strained relationship with M-Tex owner Cami Miller (Demi Moore) to navigating the ever-complicated dynamic with his ex-wife, Angela Norris (Ali Larter).
So, what happened in season 2, episode 7 of Landman? Here’s a breakdown of everything that took place, from Charlie's offshore drilling predictions to Cooper Norris' (Jacob Lofland) marriage proposal.

Mustafa Speaks as Theodore "Boss" Ramone in 'Landman.'
In season 2, episode 7, Boss (Mustafa Speaks), one of Tommy’s most trusted roughnecks, marks 20 years with M-Tex by hosting a backyard barbecue. During the celebration, Dale Bradley (James Jordan) surprises him with a Rolex Daytona Panda, a gift valued at roughly $30,000.
Amid the festivities, Boss drops a bombshell: he’s ready to step away from life in the oil fields.
“I just don't think I have 20 more in me. Hell, I ain't got two more in me. I don't know what you give for 21 years, but I ain't gonna be around to find out,” he tells Dale.
Boss later adds that once the summer ends, he and his family plan to leave the Permian Basin and move to Houston.
Will M-Tex's offshore drilling project be successful?

Andy Garcia as Gallino and Demi Moore as Cami Miller in 'Landman.'
M-Tex’s gas well off the Louisiana coast was believed to have blown out because of a hurricane — but as Rebecca soon learns, that assumption doesn’t hold up. In a conversation with the company’s geologist, Charlie, he explains that the storm wasn’t to blame.
“Hurricanes are on the surface. The well was 30,000 feet deep,” he says, suggesting a much deeper issue at play.
When Rebecca presses Charlie for his “no bull---” assessment of whether a re-drill in the area could succeed, his answer is sobering: just a 10% chance.
“I can't guarantee it will produce. This is a wildcat,” he explains. “Wildcatting, it's a belief and nothing else. It's risking it all, chips to the middle. You know gas is there, then the well blew [and] started pumping water. Did the pocket collapse? Were you in a small reservoir? Were you on the edge of a big one? Production had little decline hints at a big one, but you don't know. That's wildcatting.”
Charlie later draws a comparison between the oil business and the diamond industry.
“You know diamonds aren't expensive because they're rare, they're expensive because they're hard to find. It's the same with our business,” he says. “Look, I'm the very best at what I do. If there's gas in that field, I will find it.”
What did Nathan make Rebecca sign?

Kayla Wallace as Rebecca Falcone and Colm Feore as Nathan in 'Landman.'
Following her conversation with M-Tex’s geologist, Rebecca fills in the company’s other in-house attorney, Nathan. But she slips up, referring to the geologist as “Charlie” instead of “Charles” — the name everyone at M-Tex uses. The mistake immediately tips Nathan off to the romantic relationship brewing between Rebecca and the geologist.
Before Rebecca can leave, Nathan stops her and asks her to sign paperwork.
“It's a conflict form. [For] a romantic relationship with a coworker who is your subordinate. Nobody calls him Charlie,” he says. “I'm just looking out for the best interests of the company, Rebecca.”
Clearly shaken, Rebecca realizes her growing relationship with Charlie could be viewed by the M-Tex board as a fireable offense. She also understands that Nathan, who has never been particularly fond of her, is using the situation to try to push her out.
Rebecca leaves but waits for Tommy to arrive so she can tell him herself.
“I had sex with one of your geologists. I thought you should hear it from me. I signed the conflict disclosure form,” she says, asking him to consider everything she’s accomplished for M-Tex before firing her.
Tommy quickly reassures her, replying, “I don't give a s--- who you jump in the sack with.”
How did Cooper propose to Ariana?

Paulina Chavez as Ariana and Jacob Lofland as Cooper Norris in 'Landman.'
After a late shift at the Patch Cafe, Ariana (Paulina Chávez) comes home to a surprise: hundreds of candles and a trail of rose petals leading her into the backyard. There, she finds Cooper asleep beside a heart-shaped arrangement of candles, its center filled with even more flower petals.
When Cooper wakes up, he asks Ariana to follow the roses into the middle of the heart. Standing together, he drops to one knee and proposes with the ring his mother, Angela, gave him.
“Forever is a long time,” Ariana says. To which Cooper replies, "No, it'll be over before we know it. So, we'd better not waste a second."
