- Katy Perry is reflecting on her difficult 2025.

- Following the world premiere of her concert film at the Tribeca Film Festival, the "California Gurls" singer opened up about how she "went through a f--- ton" last year.

- "I just kept going because I made a promise to my fans, a promise to my daughter, and a promise to myself," she said.

Katy Perry is speaking candidly about the challenges that she faced last year.

The “Part of Me” singer opened up about how she overcame “one of the hardest years of my life” during a discussion following the world premiere of her concert film, *Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour — Live in Paris*, at the Tribeca Film Festival on Monday.

“We’re all human here. And it doesn’t matter — sadness doesn’t discriminate, grief does not discriminate, pain does not discriminate. Everyone is subjected to it in their own ways,” Perry said after the screening. “Last year was probably one of the hardest years of my life.”

While she didn’t dig into specifics, 2025 saw the former *American Idol *judge end her engagement with then-partner Orlando Bloom and receive heavy backlash from the public and fellow celebrities alike for blasting off into space for 11 minutes aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin spacecraft.

“I went through a f--- ton. And there were days that were really, really, really hard,” Perry said. “And I just kept going because I made a promise to my fans, a promise to my daughter, and a promise to myself.”

Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (L) pose before talks with EU chiefs at the European Council Headquarters in Brussels, on February 12, 2025.

It took time, but the songstress noted that she “got through it” in the end.

“I walked through the fire, because everybody has to walk through their own fire,” she said. “And if you’re walking through hell, you keep going, because on the other side of hell is definitely heaven.”

She went on to call her viral Lifetimes tour “the most successful tour of my life,” adding, “Because it’s all about how you measure success, and for me, success is not a number. It’s a feeling.”

These days, Perry noted that she feels “really whole now,” which she in part credits to her new relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The politician attended the premiere alongside Perry and could be seen sitting next to her during the film.

“Actually, that show [that was filmed for the documentary] was after I met the love of my life, so I felt very anchored by that, because I’m a little bit like a rainbow kite,” Perry said. “I fly super high and touch the veil — cosmos — and sometimes I need to be anchored. And so to have that anchor, finally, makes me feel really whole now.”

She continued, “So I think yes, I did follow the butterfly and I never really knew what the butterfly meant to me, but it was a metamorphosis. And it still continues to be a metamorphosis and I would give that advice to everyone to follow the inner butterfly inside of them.”
