Kramer opened up about her reasons for leaving L.A. for Nashville, including how she could no longer afford to live in the Southern California city

She also preferred how Tennessee offered more space and an outdoor lifestyle she wanted for her children

The Michigan native, who now lives in Nashville with husband Allan Russell and her three children, added that Tennessee brings a sense of calm

Jana Kramer is shedding light on her reasons for leaving Los Angeles and putting down permanent roots in Nashville.

During a recent interview with Fox News Digital, the One Tree Hill alum, 42, revealed that there was one major factor that led her to relocate from the City of Angels in 2019. In addition to wanting her own kids to have a similar childhood to what she had growing up in the Midwest, Kramer said she also couldn’t afford L.A. anymore.

ā€œI remember being in Studio City with the two kids, and we couldn’t afford to have a bigger place with a bigger backyard and neighborhoods like that,ā€ she said, emphasizing how ā€œwe just couldn’t afford certain neighborhoodsā€ in L.A.

Along with Tennessee being more affordable for her family, Kramer was also drawn to the fact that it would give her kids the kind of upbringing she really wanted for them.

ā€œBeing from Michigan — I’m a Midwest girl through and through — and when I was living in Los Angeles, I really struggled with the fact that one of my greatest memories as a child was running in my neighborhood, just going from friend’s house to friend’s house, and not coming home until the sun went down,ā€ she explained. ā€œJust being outside 24/7ā€ was a fond memory for her, she added.

ā€œI love being in a neighborhood and just seeing my kids on their bikes, going to their friends’ houses. It just makes me feel like home,ā€ she continued. ā€œSo yeah, I love it here, and you can always go back. You can always go back to Hollywood… It’s a plane [ride] away.ā€

The Whine Down podcast host noted that the feeling she gets when she’s in the Southern state is unlike any other, which is another reason why she’s happy to call it home.

ā€œFor me, Tennessee has just always been a place that every time I land, my nervous system relaxes. It feels calm,ā€ she said.

During an interview with PEOPLE in 2019, Kramer opened up about her and her now-ex-husband Mike Caussin’s decision to move back to Nashville after a tumultuous few years in their marriage. The exes — who share son Jace, 7, and daughter Jolie, 10 — had already lived in Nashville once before, but relocated to L.A. for a ā€œfresh startā€ after news of Caussin’s infidelity in 2016.

ā€œWe moved to L.A. a couple years ago from Nashville because there were so many triggers in Nashville,ā€ she told PEOPLE at the time. ā€œWe were like, all right, we just need to move away from this place and just kind of recharge, see where things are heading and then we’ll kind of go from there.ā€

She continued, ā€œOnce we had our second [child] and we were doing awesome work, we decided that we wanted to move back to Nashville. We thought that we were ready to come back.ā€

The pair later split in April 2021 after six years of marriage, with Kramer citing ā€œinappropriate marital conduct, irreconcilable differences and adulteryā€ as the reason for their divorce.

Now, the mom of three lives in Nashville with her current husband Allan Russell, with whom she shares 2-year-old son Roman.

Kramer and Russell got engaged in May 2023 after six months of dating, and later wed in July 2024 in a traditional wedding in Scotland.
