Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear will have to miss several of the band's upcoming shows after breaking his foot in a "bizarre gardening accident."**

The Grammy-winning group shared the news of Smear's injury and announced that Jason Falkner, who has worked with Beck and St. Vincent, will fill in for him in a statement on Wednesday.**

"BREAKING NEWS! In the classic tradition of rockstars [sic] having bizarre gardening accidents, Pat Smear has apparently rung in the new year by smashing the s--- out of his left foot," the band wrote. "This means he'll unfortunately be missing a few shows while the multiple broken bones in his foot heal."

They continued, "We'll miss our beloved Pat as much as you will, but we want him fully healed and back on his feet as soon as possible. Beck and St. Vincent guitar wizard Jason Falkner will be filling in for Pat while he's on the mend."****Along with their note, the Foos posted the front page of a fictional tabloid with the headline "Pat Smear bizarre gardening accident!" and a photograph of Smear smiling as he flipped off the camera while being carried away in a medical transport stretcher.

The Foo Fighters are scheduled to perform three shows over the next month, the first being a performance at the Feria Estatal de León in Guanajuato, Mexico, on Jan. 10.

His absence from the tour also means that Smear will not perform at lead singer Dave Grohl's birthday benefit concert at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on Jan. 14. Proceeds from the event will be donated to local charities Hope the Mission and Los Angeles Mission, which aim to provide food, clothing, and services to unhoused and food-insecure individuals in Los Angeles.**

Smear will also miss the band's sold-out gig at the UTAS Stadium in Launceston, Tasmania, on Jan. 24.
