Rosanna Arquette has come out in support of Daryl Hannah, who issued a scathing critique of how she is portrayed in Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette

Arquette blasted the portrayal of Hannah in the FX limited series as "bulls---," saying that no one consulted Hannah or the Kennedy family before bringing the character to life in the show

Love Story: John F. Kennedy & Carolyn Bessette is the first season of a new anthology series from Ryan Murphy

Rosanna Arquette is firmly in Daryl Hannah's corner when it comes to the way that the actress is portrayed in Ryan Murphy's new series, Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette.

Hannah, 65, condemned her portrayal in the FX series via a scathing essay published by The New York Times on Friday, March 6. Hannah was romantically involved with John F. Kennedy Jr. before his marriage to Carolyn Bessette.

However, Hannah said that the character, played by Dree Hemingway, was "not even a remotely accurate representation of my life, my conduct or my relationship with John," the son of President John F. Kennedy and first lady Jackie Kennedy.

Taking to Instagram, Arquette, 66, voiced her support for Hannah, whom she described as "a great woman, a great actor, writer, director and activist for the environment for years!"

"Her work in the world has been epic. The portrayal of her on the streaming thing is bulls---. Her love with John F Kennedy Jr was real and some of the happiest times John F Kennedy Jr. had - Just ask his family. But no one did," she continued, pairing the message with a photo of the two women together in 2002.

This isn't the first time Arquette has publicly shown support for Hannah.

While speaking at the 2018 SAG Awards (now called The Actor Awards), the actress praised Hannah and others for their involvement in the #MeToo movement. Both Arquette and Hannah spoke out at the time, accusing disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein of inappropriate behavior.

“We are honored to be part of this supportive creative community, and we are inspired that so many powerful voices aren’t silenced by the fear of retaliation. We can control our own destiny," Arquette said while onstage.

She continued, “And here supporting many women. Asia Argento. Annabella Sciorra. Daryl Hannah, Ashley Judd. Mira Sorvino. So many. Anthony Rap. Olivia Munn.”

Other actresses have come to Hannah's defense in the aftermath of Love Story's release.

"For what it’s worth, I met Daryl Hannah early on in my career when I worked a few days on a movie with her. I was just starting out, she had already become a huge star in 'Splash', and yet she treated me with such kindness and inclusiveness, chatting with me about all kinds of things and graciously offering her trailer to me in case I was bored and wanted to watch a movie," Patricia Heaton recalled in a post on X.

Heaton continued, writing, "I can’t begin to tell you how unusual that is in our business, and it has stayed with me all these years as a model of how to treat everyone you encounter on a set. She is a lovely person."Jamie Lee Curtis also showed support for Hannah, sharing the NYT essay on Instagram, where she simply wrote, "IMPORTANT."

In her essay, Hannah said that she "believed that engaging with distortion often amplifies it."

Despite that, she felt the need to correct the narrative in this instance, writing, "But a recent tragedy-exploiting television series about John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette features a character using my name and presents her as me. The choice to present her as irritating, self-absorbed, whiny and inappropriate was no accident."

Hannah and Kennedy were on and off for more than five years before they split in 1994. He and Bessette married in 1996. The husband and wife died in a tragic plane accident off Martha's Vineyard, Mass. in September 1999.

After their relationship, Hannah went on to marry Neil Young in 2018.
