Chelsea Handler purchased RFK Jr. and Cheryl Hines' Brentwood home in 2021 for $5.9 million

Handler claimed on a recent edition of her Dear Chelsea podcast that the home was unlivable due to structural issues and described it as "toxic"

"I'm not exaggerating any of this," she continued. "It was a disaster, and I didn't know it going in because everything was, you know, under wraps"

Chelsea Handler is getting candid about purchasing Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cheryl Hines's old home.

Handler, 51, purchased the couple's Brentwood, Los Angeles, Calif., estate for $5.9 million in 2021, according to realtor.com.

The home, built in 1937, has five bedrooms and a pool, according to Curbed.

Handler, who bought the home through her sister Simone's trust, shared her alleged experience in a recent episode of her Dear Chelsea podcast, revealing she still has "not lived in that house" over four years later.

"That's how f---ed up this house was, the idea that this guy is in charge of the health of our country when he didn't even have a proper foundation at his house," said Handler, referring to RFK Jr.'s position as secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Handler claimed that she initially didn't know who she was purchasing the home from, and was later told by a home inspector that the "'house is the most toxic environment,' " and "'you cannot live here for at least two years.' "

"I'm not exaggerating any of this," she continued. "It was a disaster, and I didn't know it going in because everything was, you know, under wraps."

The podcast host, who said that at least three people told her the home was "cursed," claimed that during the last week of the inspection, she was told there was a "little outdoor storage unit" that RDK Jr. and Hines had at the home, which was "illegal."

"So now we have to remove his illegal bulls---t from my property, and I'm like, how did they not find this upon the first inspection?" she said.

According to Handler, after the purchase was complete, Hines had "the audacity" to leave her a note that said, "Let us know if there's anything we can do for you, Chelsea."

RFK Jr. and Hines purchased another home on the same street as their old one for $6.6 million.

"I'm like, 'Yeah, how about a f---ing foundation?' " Hander quipped. "That's something you could do for me. Anyway, I'm not angry about it or anything. I'm totally over it."

PEOPLE has reached out to RFK Jr.'s and Hines representatives for comment.
