Ghostbusters actress Annie Potts shared a sweet photo of herself outside the headquarters from the 1984 film, in which she played Janine Melnitz

The actress joked that the building was 'a familiar face'

Potts has also starred in the Toy Story films and Young Sheldon

Annie Potts had a sweet run-in with her Ghostbusters past just before the New Year.

On Dec. 31, Potts, 73, shared a photo on Instagram. In it, she stood before the firehouse that served as the Ghostbusters' headquarters in the 1984 movie. The actress wrote in the caption, "What's better than turning a corner in Manhattan and running into a familiar face? Wishing everyone a Happy, Healthy New Year!"

Potts played Janine Melnitz, the Ghostbusters' secretary, in the first Ghostbusters film. She returned for 1989's Ghostbusters II. In 2024, Potts told Nashville Scene about making the second movie.

She remembered that during filming of one scene, "We had to stop traffic, and it was 4 o'clock on a Friday afternoon. They put us in an apartment building there [in Central Park West], as they couldn't get actors' trailers, and you could see all the way down.
 Manhattan became gridlocked."

She continued, “Most of the time, that would make Manhattaners really mad. But because it was Ghostbusters, they were like, ‘Dude, it’s Ghostbusters, come on!’ To be forgiven for such a traffic snarl on a Friday in Manhattan gives you an idea of our popularity.”

Potts also reprised her role decades later for 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and 2024’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. The two films reunited much of the original movie’s cast, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver.

In the 2024 film, Potts’ Janine finally got to do some ghostbusting herself. “It came as a real surprise,” she told Empire Magazine in 2024, saying she was “thrilled.” Potts explained, “The chief Ghostbuster is now a young girl [Phoebe], with her mother [Callie] behind her, so it felt like a nice balance, generationally. With Janine there too, there’s someone for women of every age to cheer on.”

Asked if she got a "kick" from putting on the iconic suit for the first time, she said, "I have to say I did. Janine has served long and well, and I felt like she was finally getting her stripes, you know? ...The Ghostbusters are kind of superheroes, so it's very nice to finally be seen in that way, too."

After the first Ghostbusters was released, Potts starred in films such as 1986's Pretty in Pink and Jumpin' Jack Flash. That same year, she began starring in Designing Women, which ran until 1993. Potts also voiced Bo Peep in the Toy Story films and played Connie in Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage.

Back in 2024, Potts told PEOPLE how emotional it was to watch her Young Sheldon costars mature over the show's 7 seasons, from 2017 to 2024. "I love the children, and it's been a privilege to watch them grow up," she said. "[Iain is] so grown up, and when we started, he and Reagan would get on my lap and kiss me and play with my fingernails and my ears. They were tiny, and all day long, they just say, he would say — and they still do — 'I love you. I love you, Miss Annie.'"
