CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Philadelphia 76ers are now turning their attention to opening night as they look to make a statement at Madison Square Garden against the defending champion New York Knicks.

As the Sixers look to get things started and moving in the right direction, they look to welcome Anfernee Simons into the fold. The 8-year guard, a new addition in free agency, will look to make his debut after not playing in the preseason due to a hamstring issue, but he has been back practicing with the group ahead of the opener.

"I feel good," Simons said. "I'm taking it day by day, but I would say I feel good."

In terms of his availability for Tuesday's opener, Simons stated with a smile on his face: "I can't confirm or deny that."

Of course, because Simons has yet to play in a preseason game, he had to really take advantage of any practice time he can get. He is a career 14.9 points per game scorer and will look to give Philadelphia that type of scoring ability off the bench. As he heads into the new season, he will look to move forward and help the Sixers.

"Any practice time I can get, just trying to stay in as much practice as I can," Simons said. "Obviously, I couldn’t get game reps, but we’ll figure that out as the first 20 games go by, I’ll be able to find my way. But practice time was very important for me over the past week and just observing, also when I do get in practice, making sure I communicate and try to build some chemistry with guys through that."

The Sixers will take on the Knicks on Tuesday at 7 p.m. EDT.
