If youâre a sucker for a weird, iconic title that sounds like it was invented purely to get you to buy a movie ticket, this oneâs for you.
Tim Burton is producing and directing a remake of the 1958 sci-fi cult favorite Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, and the project just picked up a real momentum boost. Warner Bros. has tapped KPop Demon Hunters writersDanya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan to write the new screenplay.
Why This Update Changes Everything
Development rumors are easy to ignore until the movie starts stacking actual names you recognize. This update does that.
Burton is producing alongside Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper. Margot Robbieâs company LuckyChap Entertainment is also involved in producing and developing the film, with LuckyChapâs Morgan Begg overseeing the project on the companyâs side.
Thatâs a lot of grown-up studio infrastructure for something that couldâve stayed a maybe someday headline.
What the Original Movie Was Actually About
In the 1958 version, actress Allison Hayes plays a wealthy heiress whose life goes off the rails after an alien encounter turns her into a literal giant, and she goes after her cheating husband.
If your brain immediately goes, âOh, Tim Burton is going to have fun with that,â youâre not wrong.
Whatâs Happening With the Script
Gillian Flynn previously wrote a draft of the script. Now Jimenez and McMechan are taking over as the credited writers on the current screenplay draft.
Also worth noting: the writersâ own take on the premise is very 2026. The duo is quoted leaning into the idea of a wronged woman âwreaking havocâ after being done dirty, which is basically the cleanest modern hook imaginable for this title.

Why Fans Are Already Losing It
The funniest part is that this isnât even a trailer moment, itâs a âwriters hiredâ update, and people are still reacting like tickets just went on sale.
A post making the rounds pulled a predictable split of reactions: people hyped for Burton, people hyped for Robbie, and people already joking about what kind of big, ridiculous theater merch this could inspire. (One commenter literally wrote, âCanât wait to see the popcorn bucket!â Another said theyâd watch anything Burton directs or produces.)

Thatâs the thing. Even if youâve never seen the original, the combination of Burton plus a title this bonkers kind of sells itself.
Margot Robbie Is Set to Star and Produce
Robbie has been attached to the project from the start, with reporting consistently identifying her as both a producer and the filmâs intended star through her LuckyChap banner.
While the movie is still early in development, her involvement on both sides of the camera has been a key part of why the remake has stayed on Warner Bros.â radar, and why each new update continues to draw attention.
