Two police officers were injured and a suspect was in custody after a Saturday morning shooting at a Chicago hospital.

Two officers were reportedly shot, one critically wounded, in the shooting about 11 a.m. local time on April 25 at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital, after a suspect in custody got possession of a weapon and fired on the officers, according to statements from the hospital posted on Facebook.

Law enforcement officers brought a person in custody to the hospital emergency room for treatment at about 9 a.m. on Saturday, the hospital posted. "In accordance with Endeavor Health public safety weapon detection protocols, this individual was wanded upon arrival. He was escorted by law enforcement at all times. The individual later fired shots at the law enforcement officers and exited the hospital building," the hospital said in its statement.

“I have everybody that I can have coming guys. I have everybody I can coming,” a police dispatcher said in Chicago Police Department audio recordings heard by NBC News. “What I need you guys to do is let me know where you are exactly what you’re doing, so that I can keep track of everything.”

The Chicago Police Department did not immediately return a request for comment.

The injured officers were transferred to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where they were listed in critical condition, CBS News reported.

SWAT teams surrounded a home where the shooter had fled to and arrested him, CBS News reported.

The person was apprehended and remains in custody, while the hospital was on lockdown. "No team members or patients were physically harmed as a result of this incident," according to the hospital's statement. "The safety of our patients and team members remains our top priority. We are cooperating with law enforcement during their investigation and our deepest compassion remains with the officers and their families."

Two Chicago City Council aldermen posted on social media about the incident. "Praying for our officers," 36th Ward Alderman Gilbert Villegas posted on X. "The suspect has now been taken into custody." Another alderman, Jim Gardiner, also posted about the incident on Facebook, advising residents to stay out of the area.
